As I currently have no passport due to a visa application, Christmas was spent in the stunning Cotswolds with Australian friends who were also not making the 24 hour trek back to Melbourne this year. Although I get painfully homesick during the Christmas period, I was looking forward to a quintessentially British Christmas with an open fire, turkey and enough cheese to add five pounds to our waist just looking at it!
After researching accommodation options on Alastair Sawday's way back in April 2012 (yes, I'm super organised!), I came across the perfect 3 bedroom cottage in the village of Upper Slaughter (Slaughter being an old Saxon word, Slohtre, meaning a muddy place). This quaint little village was the perfect place to spend Christmas huddled up inside by our roaring fire, wearing ridiculous Christmas jumpers, eating endless amounts of delicious food from Waitrose and playing non-stop games of the highly addictive Monopoly on our iPads.
I was recovering from Norovirus during our trip, so unfortunately didn't take many photos. I'm not lying when I mean I literally played monopoly and slept by the fire like a cat all week!

I can't believe how many people were sick over Christmas. Most of my friends absconded the entire of Christmas because they were bedridden. I got up, cooked for our guests and collapsed onto my bed for the next 14 days. Yuck.
